The Bakumatsu period — The Kurosu clan, located in a mountain village.
One night, as the clan secretly plotted a rebellion against the shogunate and
manufactured weapons in the village, fate took a turn for the worse.
The village was engulfed in flames due to a surprise attack by the shogunate's
spies, resulting in the brutal slaughter of the villagers.
The protagonist, along with their blade twin, were rescued by an elderly leader
known as a "Bladesmith" and taken to a hidden village.
There, they were trained as 'Veiled Edges' as a pair.
Time passed, and in 1853, the sudden arrival of the American black ships demanded the opening of
Japan,
The lord of the Kurosu clan ordered the Hidden Blades to obtain evidence of a
secret pact between the shogunate and the United States to gain a
righteous cause for overthrowing the shogunate.
However, the operation failed,
prompting the protagonist's blade twin to stay behind on the black ship
and allow the protagonist to escape. They have since gone missing.
Upon returning to the village, the protagonist felt that their blade twin was still alive.
As they were attacked by the shogunate's spies who had caught wind of the black ship incident,
the protagonist decided to leave the clan in search of their blade
twin.
They became a ronin and set out on a new journey,
starting in Yokohama, passing through Edo, and finally traversing to the conspiracy-laden Kyoto.
In the quest to find their blade twin,
the protagonist became embroiled in various encounters and personal bonds,
shaping the dawn of Japan's history.
